Note from Keith: Professionally, this assignment was a big break for me. It was my first chance working for Ballantine Books and my first hardback novel cover too. Unfortunately, I only had five days to complete the finished illustration, which is about half the time I was accustomed to taking. In fact, I was painting right up to 15 minutes before the Fed Ex truck arrived to pick up the painting.
