Chernevog This was the second of a trilogy of book covers I did for the novels the C.J.Cherryh wrote, based on Russian folklore. I thoroughly enjoyed painting these three covers. The palette I chose was very subdued, and actually fairly realistic, and, it reflected the mood of the stories pretty well. Actually, I didn't care much for the books, and as it turns out, the author didn't like my Illustrations much either. Ahem, e-e-e-even though two out of three of them won the Chesley award for "Best Hardback Book Cover" of the year. ...Well, in fairness, I don't think the books sold too well, and of course an author's gotta blame it on something besides the stories, right?
